I've only seen the first three episodes of RH -- I'm jumping into the fandom right as I watch through. (I'm hooked, though, totally -- today it stopped being fairy-tale for me and just reached out and drew me right in.) Robin still seems to be the focal character for me.
So far, what I can see of his strengths: he genuinely loves the people he's entrusted with. I think his total horror at seeing the tongues being cut out was genuine. He's smart, and the plans that he comes up with are usually good ones. Weaknesses: he can be egotistical around the people close to him, he condescends to Marian, and there's that mystery about why he went away to war -- why he is devoted to the king, and whether he had selfish or altruistic reasons for going away.
Is there anything you want to add to the list? (And don't worry about spoilers, at least except for season 3 like general board policies -- I enjoy spoilers.
) There are several things I'm really curious about. First of all, I don't understand why Robin is quite as immature as he is
regarding women. Is that just a function of the times? Marian is totally capable of taking care of herself, and fighting for the people as well as he can.
When I first saw all the pressure they placed on Robin ("things are going to be better now that Robin is in town") I felt like Robin was very noble
for holding up under it all, but then he seemed disappointed that Marian could fight too -- I don't think it was just that he wanted her to be safe.
Second, I don't understand why Robin went away to war in the first place. I believe him in the concern that he has for the people globally -- so why would
he do something so likely to hurt them? I mean, one of the first things he heard when he came home was that his friend's wife had starved to death under
the new tax systems. Surely he knew that might happen with the sherriff in town, unless he was painfully naive before the war? Finally, I'm curious about
all the aftereffects of the war and other things on Robin. I can see already that he has some things that he's not talking about. Cliche or no, I thought
that the scene where Marian was telling him that he didn't need to keep things buried in order to be strong was fascinating. What do you think he's
keeping buried?
There is also something going on regarding strength, weakness, and ruthlessness. I don't think I've seen Robin kill yet, although I know that he has in the past (unless I missed something). The Sheriff keeps saying that he's weak because of that. Obviously I don't think so (the Sheriff is the bad guy, after all), but do you think that Robin's weak?
I hear there are some good developments with Robin coming up, so feel free to discuss, and I'll keep watching!

and I know Robin is the hero and all ... but I think the negativity is due in part precisely to the fact that we expect more from the hero. Guy, on
the other hand, is a badly damaged man in the service of a power-hungry sadist, so he gets perhaps excessive credit for showing even a little glimmer of
humanity.
